Mentor Registration & Verification

Purpose

Document the end-to-end mentor application, verification, and activation process.

Application Flow

  1. Sign Up — Mentor provides name, email, phone, password, and selects "Mentor" role.
  2. Profile Setup — Professional bio, areas of expertise (up to 5), educational background, current occupation, years of experience, languages spoken, and time zone.
  3. Availability Configuration — Weekly schedule with available time slots. Minimum commitment: 2 hours per month.
  4. Motivation Statement — Short text explaining why they want to mentor (used in profile and for vetting).

Verification Process

  1. Identity Verification — Upload of government-issued ID (passport, national ID, or driver's licence). Verified by country admin within 48 hours.
  2. Background Check — Platform initiates background check through approved provider. Covers criminal records and safeguarding databases.
  3. Reference Check — Mentor provides 1-2 professional references. Country admin contacts references via email.
  4. Profile Review — Country admin reviews complete application for quality, accuracy, and appropriateness.
  5. Approval / Rejection — Mentor receives notification of outcome. Rejected applicants receive feedback and may reapply after 90 days.

Activation

  • Approved mentors receive welcome kit (guidelines, code of conduct, platform tutorial)
  • Mandatory completion of online safeguarding training module (30 minutes)
  • Profile goes live and becomes visible to students in the matching engine
  • First 30 days include buddy pairing with an experienced mentor

Ongoing Requirements

  • Annual renewal of background check
  • Minimum 2 hours of mentoring per month to maintain active status
  • Completion of annual refresher training
